Our founder Henry Walker worked as a glazier in his early career and in 1942 teamed with his brother Arthur at a glass company in Montreal, Canada. After World War II Henry felt that Norfolk, Virginia would be a good location to open a business. He asked his friend and coworker George Laberge to become his partner, parted ways with his brother Arthur, and Walker & Laberge began operation on May 1st, 1947.
When Henry retired his son Robert took control of Walker & Laberge and grew it into a regional business with branches in Newport News and Richmond. By the late 70’s Walker & Laberge entered the Washington DC market where over 50 major projects were completed by the early 90’s. In 1983 an office was established in the Salisbury, Maryland area as well.
Now as we approach our 80th year in business, Walker & Laberge Co., Inc. is a third generation business with offices in Norfolk, Virginia and Salisbury, Maryland, and a presence visible all over the Mid-Atlantic area.

In the early years Walker & Laberge performed work on many buildings in the Tidewater area as it was known as back then, but the first high profile project was the Norfolk Scope complex which started construction in the late 60’s and opened in 1971.

In the mid-eighties we started work on an eventual eleven building office building/condominium project for Charles E Smith in Crystal City near Reagan National Airport. The project had stringent acoustic requirements, so we partnered with Kawneer to develop a custom system to meet the acoustic requirements for the office buildings and with Efco to provide the condominium sound rated windows. The aerial photo indicates the buildings that were part of the project. Our portfolio includes a few of the projects from the DC area.
